Selfishness

Being trapped in my own head, over-analysing my own thoughts, etc. is a form of selfishness. It’s not greedy, which what ‘selfish’ usually implies, and the conscious goals of the overthinking may even feel selfless (how true this actually is is hard to judge). It’s not necessarily narcissistic either, as these thoughts can be very self-critical, but they are still distractions keeping me from being as thoughtful towards others in my actions as I should be. But the excessive overthinking is still indulgent in itself, and it’s still a problem.

This is part of what makes excessive self-deprecating humour cringeworthy. Even when it’s negative, it’s still “me me me me me me”. 🥱
